PRE-SHRUNK HIGHLIGHTS! All $175! Today we are featuring the theme of ARCHITECTURE

Hello everyone! Well, we've finally recovered from the crowds of people that rushed through our doors last Friday- which was the opening reception for PRE-SHRUNK 2014! BUT THE SHOW is now on display until February 11th, so make sure to drop by for the first time or again, in order to actually SEE the works and maybe even pick up one for a special occasion or to start collecting original works! All the works measure 4" x 5", and are just $175.

Each year we notice themes amoung the artists, even though it's completely unplanned as the participating artists are from all over Canada and it's an open call.

Here are just a few of the architectural works in the show. Come see these and others in person or online at: www.argylefineart.com

PRE-SHRUNK 2014 Preview #7 and #8: Adrienne Godbout and Mary Garoutte

The BIG day of SMALL ART is almost upon us....and we've been working like crazy to get everything hung, catalogued, photographed! Phew!  Still so much to do, but we're almost there! The show opens tomorrow, Friday, January 24th, 7-9pm. Voucher HOLDERS ONLY to arrive between 5pm-7pm

Here are two sneak peeks to keep you going until tomorrow....we'll release two more tomorrow for a total of 10 PRE-SHRUNK Previews and then you'll be able to see them all online on Saturday afternoon.

Preview # 7  is actually made up of seven parts, although you can buy just one work or maybe two , or three , or four....you get the point. These works are acrylic on canvas, by Adrienne Godbout.

Seven Pre-Shrunks by Adrienne Godbout

Detail of one of the seven pieces, each measuring 4" x 5" by Adrienne Godbout
Preview #8 comes to us from artist Mary Garoutte. These paintings are not what we have come to know Mary for here at Argyle Fine Art....but that's another great thing about this show. Artists are free to explore new subjects or just do something they have wanted to do to get the creative juices flowing for the season of art ahead.  We love all of her submitted works for this show, but here is a sample of one real beauty.

The piece is called "Pulse Cloud", 4" x 5", oil on board, Mary Garoutte.

All the works MUST measure just 4" x 5" and are all priced at $175. Check here each day to see a new sneak peek into the show or pop by Thursday onwards to see real-life sneak peeks as many of the works are now hung!

Today, being a snow day here in Halifax, NS...many of us may be hunkering down and watching some good tv. One of the BEST shows around is Breaking Bad! Artist Nicole Kading has three works in this year's PRE-SHRUNK show. Here is a fun example of one of them.

The sixth PRE-SHRUNK by artist Nicole Kading is called  "BREAKING BROS" and is a combination of Walter White from Breaking Bad and Mario Brothers! It is painted with acrylic on board, 4" x 5", amazing.

PRE-SHRUNK 2014 Preview #5: Kazue Leeming

PRE-SHRUNK 2014 is almost upon us, opening on Friday, January 24th, 7pm. This will be the 10th year for hosting this show that features miniature paintings...but with a twist. All the works MUST measure just 4" x 5" and are all priced at $175. Check here each day to see a new sneak peek into the show. All works will be online at www.argylefineart.com after the show has opened!

TONIGHT we decided to add another PREVIEW...just in case we are powerless tomorrow, from the storm that is approaching us here in Nova Scotia and we can't upload a sneak in the morning...

The fifth PRE-SHRUNK Preview is by artist Kazue Leeming, who is an artist we have only just met for this show, but we think you may be seeing more work by Kazue as time goes on. Kazue has two works in the show, but we thought we'd show you this one. It's rare we come across such wonderful painted figurative work. Again, to do this on a small scale is very impressive. It is painted with oil on board.

PRE-SHRUNK 2014 Preview #4: Chris Wallace

PRE-SHRUNK 2014 is almost upon us, opening on Friday, January 24th, 7pm. This will be the 10th year for hosting this show that features miniature paintings...but with a twist. All the works MUST measure just 4" x 5" and are all priced at $175. Check here each day to see a new sneak peek into the show. All works will be online at www.argylefineart.com after the show has opened!

Today's PRE-SHRUNK Preview is by artist Chris Wallace. This piece is called "Seeing Red".Chris lives in Nova Scotia, along the south shore. His medium of choice is egg tempera on gessoed panel. This is just one of three works Chris has contributed to the show and we are so pleased he took the challenge. Painting small isn't as easy as you would think. It's all about composition.  Each of Chris's works feature the colour red. It has proved successful.

Here's the SECOND and THIRD PRE-SHRUNK PREVIEW (sorry  about missing yesterday- it just wasn't in the cards for the day but we're making up for lost time today!)

Today's Previews come from gallery artists Twila Robar-DeCoste and Shelley Mitchell.

Twila has included a small series of works like the one below in the show. They almost look as if she painted them over this past weekend; inspired by all of our wet heavy snow decorating each tree and shrub around.  Just beautiful.

Millville (Victoria Road) , Acrylic on Canvas, 4" x 5", Twila Robar-DeCoste

And of course, we are delighted that our well loved and highly collected artist Shelley Mitchell will be part of the show again this year. This year she will be including 4 works in the show- like this one- peaceful boats and their reflections. Make me wish for summertime again.

Since the previews and sneak peeks are always popular...who doesn't love to sneak on art!  So, here's the first PRE-SHRUNK PREVIEW by artist Katharine Burns . This piece is just one of five bicycle inspired works Katharine has submitted to the show. All of the works are painted with oil on board and are simply wonderful.

LAST HIGH TIME for ART at HIGH NOON 2014- Shelley Mitchell

TODAY is the LAST HIGH NOON Feature...we thought we'd end it with the very lovely Shelley Mitchell's work. HIGH NOON is a special time in January and July where we do inventory at the gallery, and find special works needing good homes. We offer them up for sale at very special prices..but just for 24 hours. There are a number of works that have still not sold from HIGH NOON throughout the last few days...so as an extra special treat, we'll extend those prices again until the end of the day tomorrow as well...so until January 16th, at 4pm!

Today's HIGH NOON at NOON feature is by artist Shelley Mitchell. This work dates back to 2009 and is called "Shallow Water", oil on canvas. The actual work  measures 36" x 30"", but it is also framed in a simple  frame made by the artist, with adds approximately 1.5"  inches to the overall dimensions.

This work is also, as many of our HIGH NOON works, much much much better in person! This work is stunning and makes everyone take a second look. The shadow of the boat on the water, the sunlight...it's all so perfect. This work is both traditional in subject matter, but also very contemporary and would look great amoung any collection of work or on it's own.

Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON this work are priced at $2300. After that time, it will all go back to it's  original price of $3200.

HIGH TIME for ART at HIGH NOON 2014- Mark Brennan

If you haven't already noticed, we're in full swing of HIGH NOON at NOON again but only for two more days!! ! From now until January 15th, we'll be once again be doing HIGH NOON at NOON...where we will be featuring ONE piece of art at HIGH NOON that will be priced at a special price but for just 24 hours! The works selected for these days, are works that the gallery and artist that created them feel is some of their best works...but haven't found a home yet. We'd like to introduce you to these works and hope that some of them find a home with you.

Today's HIGH NOON at NOON feature is by artist Mark Brennan. This work dates back to 2010 and is called "Dawn: Kejimkujik Lake", oil on board. The actual work  measures 10" x 12", but is also framed in a simple black frame with adds approximately 2 inches to the overall dimensions.

This work has always been a favourite- but it's very difficult to represent online, as the colours are subtle. In person, and especially in low light, it almost feels as if you are sitting peacefully along the shore of the lake, with the sun just dipping down behind the trees for the night. You can almost hear the birds, the water- it makes you think about warmer days to come and quiet evenings.

Mark is working hard this year on a number of very exciting projects; and we're excited that he will be having a solo show at the gallery in November at Argyle Fine Art. .

SOLD

Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON this work are priced at $295. After that time, it will all go back to it's  original price of $445.

Today's HIGH NOON at NOON feature is by amazing Halifax  artist Nick Brunt. Nick loves to paint all sors of wonderful and bizarre things, but this work was a one-off inspired by the zombie craze of 2010. It still seems to be alive and well -and seemed appropriate for today, as personally, today, I kinda feel like this little guy in the painting. Wouldn't this Zombie look wonderful hanging around at your home or maybe even your office...reminding you to use your brain and not allowing it become food for the undead! ?? Of course he would!!

The piece is called "Brains" and measures 18" x 24",  acrylic and mixed media on board, ready to hang as is or frame.

Today's HIGH NOON at NOON is by self-taught/folk artist Basil Doucette from Yarmouth County.. Basil is 78 years old this year, but still busy making wonderful, whimsical folk art works. His favourite things to carve are birds and squirrels, and sometimes the odd beaver just in time for Canada Day.  We've had this larger work by Basil since 2009 and feel like it really needs to find it's roost. It would be a great addition to any collection!

This work is called "Hawk" and is a wood carving by Basil Doucette. It measures 15" high and is painted with acrylic, signed and dated on the bottom. He's just a charming Hawk looking for a home to watch over....will it be yours?
