Pre-Shrunk is coming!

Hello artists and patrons! We know you're getting ready to tuck away for a few days for the holiday season, but the gallery elves are getting ready for the New Year. Why? Because it's almost Pre-Shrunk 2018! The best show of little works, featuring artists of all ages, artists who are well established, artists who have never shown their work before, and everything in between! Paintings, textiles, sculpture, you name it! All just 4"x5"!

We're getting SO excited we wanted to share a few sneak peek pieces that our gallery artists have been working on - BUT remember, it's an open call show so ANYONE can submit. How? Click on the "Submissions" tab above, or the link HERE. The deadline to submit is January 5th and the show opens January 19th, 7pm-9pm!

And now some Pre-Shrunk sneak peeks...

A lovely little piece by Katharine Burns on her much larger easel.

Another easel shot, this time by Gordon MacDonald, who does his Pre-Shrunks on copper!

The sweet faces of Abigail Lower's Pre-Shrunk pieces in the works.

A little crop of a piece Jan Davison has in the works. It might be a familiar scene if you're a Hali-local.

Some lovely local landscapes by Vaughn Gray.

Caitlin McGuire continues to study the library, shrinking down from 4'x5' to 4"x5".

We're also really excited that our friends over at Tidehouse Brewing are making a special Argyle Fine Art beer that will launch at the Pre-Shrunk opening!

Check them out on Twitter @TideHousebrew, but most definitely in person, they're just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from the gallery at 2-5187 Salter St, Halifax! Cheers to that!

Full Circle with Creative Editions and Caitlin McGuire

Well it's hard to believe that our little idea grew to such a great big idea three years ago now. Creative Editions started with a little print by Caitlin McGuire and so we thought it would be fitting to end with one of her works too. Full Circle!

December will be the LAST CALL for our art subscription service to make way for some new ideas. As of today December 15th, we will bring our subscription service to a close for all new subscribers.  However if you want to pick up the final four months of art, we are offering them at a group price of $65. Would make a lovely gift (and affordable, as our prints usually retail at $25 each) Get in touch!

Colourful Tiles by Caitlin McGuire is featured below. The original work only measures 2.5" x 3.5"  so it's fun to see this little mini painting expanded to our regular print size.

December Days: Cats for Christmas

It's Thursday and that means it's once again time to share a few treasures that are specially priced at 25% until December 24th. We thought that these two kitties would make the purrrrrrrfect gift for any cat lover under a tree for those on your list. Each work is an original watercolour on paper and measures 5" x 7". They are nicely framed in a simple wood frame each, which adds about 1 inch to the overall dimensions.

They are normally $125 but are now 25% off, which means they are the very bizarre price of $93.75 each.  and by the very lovely person and artist Colleen MacIsaac.  Get in touch soon to make them yours!

Two new paintings by Katharine Burns have arrived! Act Quickly!

Artist Katharine Burns has come a long way since only three years ago, when we had her first feature of paintings, which were mostly inspired by bicycles. We saw a great artist beginning to emerge- with lots of talent, professionalism and even more importantly a passion to keep painting and to keep learning more and more!

Now fast forward to current day, where Katharine has full representation by our gallery and has had two sold out shows with us and two more shows planned already for 2018 and  has found representation outside of Nova Scotia as well. This year she also had a very successful collaboration with Symphony Nova Scotia, completed  many commissions and took the plunge a few months ago to quit her day job and launch headfirst into a career as a professional artist. That takes courage and dedication.

Here are two new works available that will be on display at our Holiday Party this Friday, December 8th, 4pm-8pm. You'll have a chance to meet artist Katharine Burns too! Please do pop in and say hello and see what's new!  Here's a link to the event page for the party HERE

December Days- Better Late than Never

This past Saturday we were serving up hot cider and donuts to all that visited our gallery; as people were just beginning to do some scouting for holiday ideas and gifts. We were also fundraising for the annual Christmas Daddies Telethon and were on television presenting our gift of money and some art too, with artist William Rudolph. Thanks to all that helped out!

All this to say.....we didn't put up our December Days special on Saturday as we ran out of time and energy, so here it is today....better later than never. It's this wonderful piece by Gordon MacDonald!

This work is called "The Blue House" and is painted with oil on board with some gold leaf- a new technique that Gordon just began experimenting in the past years. This work is from 2016. It measures 21.75" x 25.5"

It's regular price is $1650 but until December 24th, it is $1100

We will continue posting December Days with specially priced art each Thursday and Saturday.
Check back often!
