The newest members of our flock!

Painting a portrait that not only portrays a likeness, but captures the personality of the subject itself, is no easy feat. It's even trickier when the subject is not human. Artist Sharon Cave manages to do both in her bird series' paintings.

Here we'd like to introduce you to some of our new fine feathered friends from her Rooster Series...

Oh Roland, always a little skeptical...

Peabody has excellent focus which makes him a great listener, unless you're wearing shiny buttons...

Cooper is more of the silent type, but is a big softie once you get to know him.

You can see the full roost here in person or online HERE.

If you came to our Pre-Shrunk Show you might be familiar with another of Sharon's collections, the crows!

While most have left the nest there are still a few of these inquisitive birds flying around the gallery. Come down and meet them today!

A Purrfect Valentine's Day

Do you ever wonder why they put Valentine's Day in the middle of the coldest, greyest, dreariest month of the year? While we're sure there's historical and religious roots for the reason, we like to think it's because by the time February rolls around we could all use a little extra love and kindness.

We're radiating with love down here at the gallery!

To help us celebrate this year we'll have our pals from the Halifax Cat Rescue Society here on Saturday, Feburary 11th from 1-4PM! Pick up a Valentine's Day gift for your favourite furry pal! There will also be games, cookies, draws and prizes, so don't miss out! It'll be fun for the whole family! For more information check out the event page HERE.

As Time Goes By:Shelley Mitchell at the Halifax Central Library

We're very excited to let everyone know that our gallery artist, Shelley Mitchell is the first artist to showcase original works of art at the new SUNROOM location on the 5th floor of the Halifax Central Library. Everyone is invited to attend the opening reception on Wednesday, February 8th, 6pm-8pm.  The works will remain at the library for approximately 2 months, but are available for sale through our gallery should you be interested.

Shelley speaks about these latest works in her own words:

The paintings in this exhibition are my way of capturing the integration of the historic
and contemporary elements of this city through which we move. The buildings we
inhabit and pass by affect who we are and inform what we plan to become. I have
explored certain iconic Halifax structures that have historic and personal value without
too much concern for their accurate placement in time or space. I believe this library is
already becoming a new Halifax archetype and is contributing to the happiness, well
being and community spirit of our city in company with the significant structures
surrounding it.

We're also very excited to share two sneak peeks at work that will be in the show. Enjoy!  We'll have all the images available upon request, once the show officially opens this week.
